University Planning

Planning at UNO occurs at several levels. Both university-wide initiatives as well as state-wide plans are described below.

  • Contents:
  • UNO Strategic Plan 2011-14
  • State Strategic Plan 2011-12 to 2015-16 (LaPAS)
  • Master Plan for Public PostSecondary Education in Louisiana: 2011
  • UNO's Institutional Effectiveness
  • UNO's Plan for University Success

UNO Strategic Plan
The University’s internal planning document, 2011-2014 Strategic Plan, aligns with the objectives and measures specified in the Louisiana GRAD Act.

State Strategic Plan (LaPAS)
Under Louisiana law, each state department must produce a strategic five-year plan that addresses requirements identified for the State's Master Plan. Updated every three years, this document includes all public higher education institutions. Measures must meet statutory requirements. They are used in Performance Based Budgeting through scheduled reporting to Louisiana Performance and Accountability (LaPAS). The 2011-12 to 2015-16 plan was revised July 2011 to align performance data with the GRAD Act. There was an effort in 2011 to align this strategic plan to match the goals and measures stated for the GRAD Act.

Master Plan for Public Postsecondary Education in Louisiana: 2011
(Revised April, 2012)

The Louisiana Board of Regents Master Plan provides guiding principles for defining role, scope and mission statements. An updated version, "Master Plan for Public Postsecondary Education in Louisiana: 2011 (Revised April 2012)" includes Appendix D with the Role, Scope and Mission designation for each institution. See p. 72 for UNO information.

Institutional Effectiveness (IE)
The University of New Orleans has conducted a yearly review of its academic programs since the mid-1990s and engages in ongoing institution-wide review of its academic, administrative, and educational support units and programs. IE is a vital component of UNO's accreditation and is mandated by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

As part of our commitment to systemic improvement and long term goals, UNO is embarking upon a year of transition in 2012-13 that includes new leadership for these endeavors, a revitalized IE Committee, implementation of software to facilitate collecting data and running reports as well as continued training for faculty and staff. An Institutional Effectiveness Program Director has been named to oversee the IE annual cycle and to provide management and oversight for a participatory planning and assessment process within colleges, departments and units so that all individual missions are aligned with the larger university mission.

The IE Committee is composed of 10 members, representing academic and administrative or support units. The Chair of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee reports to the Provost.
