University Planning

University planning occurs at several levels. UNO's university-wide initiatives are described below.

UNO Strategic Plan
The University’s internal planning document, 2011-2014 Strategic Plan, aligns with the objectives and measures specified in the Louisiana GRAD Act.

State Strategic Plan
Under Louisiana law, each state department must produce a strategic five-year plan that addresses requirements identified for the State's Master Plan. Updated every three years, this document includes all public higher education institutions. Measures must meet statutory requirements. They are used in Performance Based Budgeting through scheduled reporting to Louisiana Performance and Accountability (LaPAS). The 2011-12 to 2015-16 plan was revised July 2011 to align performance data with the GRAD Act.

Institutional Effectiveness (IE)

The University of New Orleans has conducted a yearly review of its academic programs since the mid-1990s, but took an evolutionary step in 2001 by completely restructuring its institutional effectiveness process. Currently, the institution engages in ongoing institution-wide review of all of its academic, administrative, and educational support units and programs. The review is headed by the Chair of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee who reports directly to the Provost . The Coordinator chairs a 10-member committee made up of representatives from academic, administrative and student support/units. IE is a vital component of UNO's accreditation and is mandated by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges standards.

The requirements are that UNO identify expected outcomes, assess the extent to which it achieves these outcomes, and provide evidence of improvement based on analysis of the results in each of the following areas:

- educational programs, to include student learning outcomes
- administrative support services
- academic and student support services
- research within its mission, if appropriate
- community/public service within its mission, if appropriate

IE Plans and Assessment reports are stored in SharePoint Institutional Effectiveness Committee. Use your faculty/staff password to access SharePoint.
