Customer Service Survey
Schedule: Near end of Spring Semester
Annual online survey of UNO offices and services for students, faculty, and staff. Results are provided to the head of the units.


New Student Survey
Schedule: Beginning of Fall Semester
Information about new students' perceptions and expectations as they begin their college careers.

Sophomore Survey
Schedule: Mid-Fall Semester
Annual survey to collect students' perceptions and expectations and align with the "New Student Survey" to identify trends to help retention and graduation efforts. The survey was beta tested in Spring 2011.

Junior Survey
Schedule: Mid-Spring Semester
New annual survey implemented in Spring 2011 to collect Juniors' expectations, changes in majors and other learning experiences that will help to identify retention or graduation issues.

Schedule: Spring & Fall Semesters prior to Graduation
Short survey of all students who anticipate receiving degrees. The survey changed from an annual survey in 2010 and now is offered online at both Spring and Fall Commencements.

Student Rating of Instruction (SRI) for Online Courses
Schedule: Each semester about 2 1/2 weeks prior to finals

RIs are administered for Fall, Spring and regular summer session (not intersession) and automatically include online and hybrid classes, sections 476 through 499. Evaluations open approximately 2 weeks before finals begin and typically results are sent to deans for distribution two to three weeks after the evaluations close. Traditional in-class course evaluations must be arranged through UNO's Testing Services.

Occasional Surveys

Current Student Satisfaction / Attitudes with University of New Orleans (2008). This survey of undergraduates was conducted by Dr. Pam Kennett-Hensel and graduate students. The hypothesis was that the more satisfied the student, the more likely the student would re-enroll. "Red flags" signaling intent to withdraw are summarized on page 5.

Marketing Research conducts research and secondary data analysis to better understand how UNO is seen in various constituencies as well as what needs to be addressed. Those reports are online at Marketing Research.

 

External Surveys

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
Schedule: Every other year
The NSSE samples freshmen and seniors for insight about how they spend their time both on and off campus and what they gain from those experiences. Selected measures are used as benchmarks for university planning.

UNO will participate in the 2012 NSSE. The survey opens in February and will close in June - over 750 colleges and universities are participation nationwide. UNO's 2008 and 2010 NSSE reports are available below.

National Survey of Student Engagement
A variety of reports from the 2011 NSSE are available online along with other annual results, summary tables, publications and presentations.

"What Campus Leaders Can Do" - NSSE Occasional Paper #1 offers guiding principles based on an in-depth examination of twenty 4-year institutions that have higher-than-average graduation rates
